Ranplan Radiowave Propagation Simulator

Ranplan Radiowave Propagation Simulator (RRPS) is a powerful electromagnetic modelling tool for predicting the effects of buildings and terrain on the propagation of electromagnetic waves. It predicts how the locations of the transmitters and receivers within an urban area affect the signal strength. RRPS models the physical characteristics of the rough terrain taking account of urban building features. it then performs the electromagnetic calculations, and finally evaluates the signal propagation characteristics.

RRPS implements the Intelligent Ray Launching Algorithm (IRLA), which is based on ray tracing/ray launching techniques. This propagation model has the ability to predict coverage and other channel characteristics such as Angles of Arrival (AoA), Power Delay Profile (PDP), within a short time. RRPS also provides a visual presentation of these results and is useful in facilitating efficient analysis of channel modelling.

RRPS also offers some empirical/semi-empirical models such as European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research (COST)-231-HATA model. The integration of these models offers comparison and also the flexibility in applying different models to suit different needs and situations.

Main features of RRPS:

•  Provides various simulation scenarios including Outdoor, Indoor, Indoor-to-Outdoor as well

•  Supports well-known propagation algorithms: COST-HATA, COST-Walsh Ikegami, Multi-Wall, One Slope, Free Space and Motley Keenan

•  Enables 3D view of buildings and multipath signal behaviours.

•  Provides 2-D/3-D coverage multi-layer view (rotate, move, zoom in/out)

•  Analyses various probability density function (PDF), angular spread (AS), AoA and angles of departure (AoD).

•  Compares the simulation results with measurement data

•  Provides scripting engine such as VBScript/JScript

•  Imports and exports results into files
